i think the two of you would get along fine, as she seems to be your height and riding level!
    and she’s cute, besides…

The pony looks fine and I am sure the two of you will be compatible. Obviously you must try before you buy, some of the more reputable owners who are selling ponies want you to visit them and ride the pony several times to make sure that everything is fine. Good luck! I hope everything goes fine and that you have many happy years together!

Not being at all nasty here but if all you have ever ridden is school ponies you need to be careful and give this pony a really good tryout before you make any decisions. The words forward going are the ones that are making me say this. Usually school ponies have to be constantly pushed – I don’t think this one will.
She looks like her name suits her.
Make sure to get her checked out by a vet etc and have a couple of experienced people with you when you go to view her. See her ridden before you try her yourself.

She’s certainly got a big jump on her, she looks like she could do with a fair bit of scholing but much better built than the others you have been looking at. She is being ridden in a kimblewick which is a harsh bit, you need to be looking at ponys that are suitable for novices and snaffle mouthed you may want to sell it on in a year or so because you are still growing and a strong forward going pony is harder to sell on than a novice family pony they go like hot cakes. She may will be too firey for you as you have only ridden riding school ponys. The fact she is above the bit in this picture say’s that she is trying to evade it or that it is too strong for her which ever way she will need re schooling teeth, back etc checking etc to see if she is actually in pain.
How much are you planing to spend on a pony?
Cant say weather you will get on well together because I do ot know you or the pony only the people who go with you to try her out will be able to tell!

    Good luck

It looks as though she is wearing a kimblewick bit – it certainly has some poll leverage which means she needs more brakes than just a snaffle. Her head carriage suggests that she is forward going too. Do you like forward going ponies? Riding school horses are not usually forward going so I am concerned that you may find her too hot.

Unless you like forward going, fast ponies I suggest you look for good allrounder and snaffle mouthed. Good luck!

looks to me the sort that will pull your arms out. Are you prepared for that, or even better prepared to reschool her so she is happier about being ridden? Probably she is very forward going so people have strapped her down for ‘control’. I would say if you’ve been riding once a week for 10 years then no. If you’ve been to the stables every waking hour and ridden lots, then maybe.

She looks a nice jumping pony. In the photo of her trotting her outline makes me feel that she is a forward going pony who has mainly been schooled just for jumping. If you are a good rider you would probably find her fun to ride, however if you have had all your experience on riding school ponies you may find her a bit too much for you. With the running martingale and kimblewick bit she is wearing she is probably a strong ride who puts her head up to avoid the bit. From the photo of her on the flat I would imagine that if she gets strong her head carriage will be very high.
You need to get an instructor who knows you well to give an honest assessment of your abilities and it would be a good thing for them to see the pony and to try it with you to see whether they thought you would be suited to each other.
I would have liked to own her when I was your age.

she looks like she’s quite forward going, you can tell from her head carriage, and the bit she’s got. she can certainly jump though! if you like ponies that go, and you’re competent enough, then go for it! but remember to try her first, and ask an extremely experienced adult to come along too.

As it says not a novice ride it depends on how good you are.
Just because you have ridden riding school ponies all your life (so far) does that mean you sit and ride for an hour a week or have you done lots of stuff on lots of horses/ponies?
If you go to see this pony take along your instructor as they will have a good idea of what you can cope with, and get the vendor to ride it for you to see it, if they won’t get on it walk away!

hi always try a couple of times before you buy, take your riding instructor with you if you can most are happy to help. without details of how long youve been riding etc thats a hard question to answer. have you also concidered what the pony is like to shoe etc and handle on the ground. also can you cater for her living needs ie stables etc?? i hope you find you perfect match. he or she will be out their some where. having a horse is great fun but if you get the wrong one its a very expensive way of being miserable. good luck. wishing for you.x

Well it depends if u match does his weaknesses reflect on ur strengths and vice versa. Does his attitude mesh with urs and can ur handle his weaknesses.

    As a riding instructor i feel that this pony would not be suitable for you. these are my reasons why;

    1) for your 1st pony you are better of having a pony that is snaffled mouthed which this pony is not. she is in a kimblewick which is a bit i dont like but that is my personal opion. This shows the pony needs a stronger bit to help with the braking of her.

    2) she is wearing a martingale which there is nothing against but this shows that she has a tendonace to raise her head beyond the point of control.

    3) it says on the ad not a novice ride. now even tho you have been riding for yrs at a riding school, you are best of getting a novice pony. this is because riding ponies tend to be push push ponies and getting a type of pony ur not use to may knock your confidence or ruin the pony. this sort of pony maybe better as a 2nd or 3rd pony.

    4) the price. for a 1st pony at your age you do not wanna spend too much as you will soon unfortantly out grow her.

Always try before buying and take someone experienced with you. also please be careful of dealers as they are of catches with them.

make the most of your 1st pony as you will never forget them and they will teach you so much

  18. beaupeep
    April 7th, 2010 at 22:27

The hint is in the ad – not a novice ride and your safety is paramount. If you are looking for a first pony then this is not the pony for you. Looking at the pics she does look forward going. Sometimes if ponies are keen and too forward going they can lose the rider’s confidence and that would be a shame. Also chestnut mares can be well … mareish! Good luck with your search. I’m sure your perfect partner is just around the corner.

she is very nice but…….. looks quiet strong , a little on the fizzy side , power full legs etc. great for jumping / cross country if her brakes are good. it depends what you want her for ? try her out on open ground in an area where she hasn’t been before if possible . she how she behaves . hack out on own and will others to see how she get’s along. get your instructor to give you a lesson on her first and to tell you if your all suited . get her vetted. its yes ,go for it and hope you have a long and happy time together. just remember if the owner’s don’t let you try these things out , just walk away they are plenty more out there.
your be surprised how many dealer rip people off, not all but you know what i mean. a friend wanted a nice horse to jump got one then found out that was all it did. killer on roads hated other horses. i went to view another horses with friend on last viewing before parting with cash , i told her to quietly walk up very quiet lane with me the owner just walked of , got out gate it throw her off and panic wanted to bold back to stable, then told it likes to go out with several together never on it’s own, lucky escape for friend there + £ 3000 in her pocket. please check out the pony first .

She’s adorable. Very nice over fences but my only concern is the way she holds her head makes her look a little feisty. Maybe, that is just my eyes decieving me but she does seem to have a great personality.

    April 12th, 2010 at 17:16

I think she would be awsome for you! Get her checked by a vet aznd ask your trainer or some one who’s ridden horses to watch you ride her. She has a nice jump! I hope you plan on jumping her, cuz it would be such a waste of talent if you didn’t! Good luck!

Sorry i cant seem to access picture!! As long as people pick the correct size horse/pony for them then ANY horse and rider will look good together but its how you ride them and how they go for you that counts!!

Shame I cant see the pictures but if you wanna go and try it then do so! Good luck!x

Nice pony-though i wouldnt think it would be suitable as a first pony if you have only ridden school horses.I also noticed its in a kimblewick Which could mean its strong-but you wont know unless you go and try it out-Take someone experienced with you-Good luck!!xx

That Is A Competition Pony, So If You Just Wanted A Pony To Have Fun On Then Its Probably Not For You.Its The Type For Competition Eg For An Experienced Teenager Competing At Medium level. Has Ponies For Novice To Experienced Levels And The Horses Have Full Warranties.
If You Are Still Not Sure Email Me As I Have A Friend Who Has 2 Ponies For Sale.Or Her Email Is

She is a nice looking pony, but I think she may be too strong. Make sure that you try her out and get her vetted before you buy. One other thing is to find out how she is out of the arena. You may want to find a light weight experienced adult to hack her out for You.

    April 23rd, 2010 at 16:30

does not look suitable for a first pony at all. you are only 13 you could spend 30 years on school ponies but buying something as fizzy looking as this mare is dicing with trouble.
