Cinderella’s corner asked:

The pony I’m leasing is terrified of flags, for some reason, even though her owner has carried flags off of her before. We are practicing for a parade and we were riding around flags as the instructor there said to so that our horses could get used to flags. Well, Apple (the pony) spooked every time at the flag. When she spooks she either jumps or spins. This makes it difficult for me to try to stay in control when her movements are so sharp and strong it takes a good effort to stay on. This doesn’t make any sense to me, though. Her owner not only won gymkhana queen on her, but used to carry the flag at gymkhanas. Why is Apple spooking at the flag with me and how can I calm her down? How can I stop being so nervous after she spooks?
I’ve been riding for six years, but every time she spooks she makes me feel like a beginner again.
We’ve only been working together for a month.

So I need some helpful suggestions about what I can do to help her.Breakfast is a scoop coarse mix, rye grass and timothy hay, lunch is rye grass hey, dinner is the same as breakfast. She’s not ridden very much. She’s stabled at night, very clean and looked after very well. She is well-wormed. She seems like she’s constantly in season, tail up, discharge, but increadle gas. The gas is constant and was like that when she came to us. Her stools are runny when she’s farting too. Her (sorry) butt hole is inverted not pinched, it looks open and her vagina looks very mis-shaped. When she came shewas still making milk, too many babies??She’s a happy little thing overall and cheeky and smart but Im worried.

Kitty asked:

Okay, so my friend is in another country and will be there for a few months. She has a pony who’s beautiful, shes got great confirmation, gorgeous markings, amazing jump, stuff like that. I feel really good on her when I ride her, so shes a great pony. Out in the ring, she perks her ears, pays attention to me, she even responds to my voice commands- waaaalk, trot, caaanter, clicking to go faster, woahing to go slower, stuff like that.

I might buy her next summer if everything goes well and I like her. My friend is turning 18 next year and needs a horse since she wants to continue showing. Im 14, so Ive got a ways to go until I need a horse.

ANYWAY, the only thing I don’t like about her is that shes so mean and is a bully! She was in a field for a while, did fine, but then started to bit other horses that came near her. She occasionally kicked, but never hurt another horse. Right now shes in a paddock with another horse. (previously a stud, he still has the idea of being one and cant be around geldings or else beats em up, but gets along with my friends mare.)

Around the barn as well she can be quite mean. She pins her ears whenever people go up to her or go behind her, but rarely kicks. When I go to catch her in the field, she pins her ears and runs away unless I have treats. Also in her stall, when I walk up to her she pins her ears and moves away from the door.

Ive begun to go to her stall, give her a treat, pat her neck and face, say good girl and give her a few more treats. Sometimes it works- when she sees me she’ll perk her ears and look at me, other times she wants nothing to do with me.

How can I show her that Im not mean and wont hurt her and she doesn’t need to be mean? yes, shes a mare, mares do this, but I want to try to turn it around. Please don’t suggest Parielli or stuff like that, I don’t believe in it and will not try it.

Advice? Thanks in advance.
I dont like Parelli because of what it teaches. Its also a scam. Id rather teach a horse or my pony what I learned whats correct and what I believe in, rather then spend hundreds of dollars on something that I dont and whats not always good for their behavior. I almost bought a horse that was trained with Parielli and him and I were extremely confused because he knew something I didnt and I didnt want to spend a lot of money just so I could know how to train him. I just dont agree with everything and all the stupid rules.

Also, I guess she is just laying her ears back. Occasionally she will pin them back, but its not that often.

I have been riding for almost 2 years, but am already very advanced. I ride english and do show jumping. I have experience with caring for horses, I help out to care for the horses at 2 different stables that i ride at. I know how to properly groom, wash and properly exercise a horse. I will also be going to camp, while i lease this horse/pony so i will be riding everyday. What else do I need to know about caring for a horse. Also, I will be half leasing.
